SUMMARY:Asian American & Pacific Islander Women's Equal Pay Day
DESCRIPTION:The average Asian American / Pacific Islander woman is paid $0.85 for every $1.00 paid white\, non-Hispanic men\, losing hundreds of thousands of dollars over a 40-year career. But\, that’s only part of the #AAPIEqualPay story. For certain communities\, the wage gap is far greater. Vietnamese women earn $0.67\, Hmong women earn $0.61\, and Burmese women earn only $0.52\, making them some of the lowest paid people in the nation. Even within high earning fields\, Asian women are paid less than their male counterparts. “Model-minority” rhetoric is racist\, classist\, divisive\, and just plain wrong. The wage gap affects ALL women. And we’ve ALL had enough. SUMMARY:World Day of Fight Against Sexual Exploitation
DESCRIPTION:Every year since 2009\, 4th March has been designated as World Day of the Fight Against Sexual Exploitation. Although there are exceptions\, sexual exploitation overwhelmingly involves women and children\, and it is a problem of worldwide proportions. It has been estimated that every second of the day an average of eight women\, girls and often young boys\, are trapped by international criminal networks where the sole aim is to sexually exploit them\, traffic them and enslave them. This process obviously robs them of their basic human rights\, including their right to freedom\, their dignity\, their right to live where they choose and the right to control their own bodies.
