How to Become a Commissioner

The California Commission on the Status of Women is comprised of seventeen members. Nine Public Members, six Legislative Members and two Statutory Members. The Commission itself is not responsible for the appointment of Commissioners.

Gubernatorial Appointments

The Governor appoints seven Public Members on a staggered basis. Go to the Governor’s Appointment Website to fill out the application.The contact person in the Governor’s Office is:

Senate Appointments

The Senate Rules Committee appoints three Legislative Members and one Public Member. Contact your local State Senator about being appointed by the Senate as a Public Member of the Commission.

Assembly Appointments

The Speaker of the Assembly appoints three Legislative Members and one Public Member. Contact your Local Assembly Member about being appointed by the Assembly as a Public Member of the Commission
