Stevie winners will be presented their awards on June 13 in New York

SACRAMENTO, CA – April 27, 2023 – The California Commission on the Status of Women and Girls was named the winner of a Gold Stevie® Award in the Category: Best White Paper or Research Report for the California Blueprint for Women’s Pandemic Economic Recovery and was named a winner of a Silver Stevie® Award in the category of Thought Leadership Campaign of the Year – Government or Non-Profit category for the California Blueprint for Women’s Pandemic Economic Recovery in The 21st Annual American Business Awards®.

The American Business Awards are the U.S.A.’s premier business awards program. All organizations operating in the U.S.A. are eligible to submit nominations – public and private, for-profit and non-profit, large and small.

Nicknamed the Stevies for the Greek word meaning “crowned,” the awards will be presented to winners at a gala ceremony at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York on Tuesday, June 13.

“We are thrilled that the Commission’s important work focused on research and policy recommendations that prioritize the economic recovery of women in the wake of the devastating impacts of the pandemic were recognized,” said Executive Director Holly Martinez. “Women are essential to the continued global economic competitiveness of our state and to the process of building solutions to persistent challenges and developing an economy that works for all of California’s citizens. As the Commission continues to grow it’s wonderful to receive such an honor for the second year in a row.”

More than 3,700 nominations from organizations of all sizes and in virtually every industry were submitted this year for consideration in a wide range of categories, including Startup of the Year, Executive of the Year, Best New Product or Service of the Year, Marketing Campaign of the Year, Thought Leader of the Year, and App of the Year, among others. The California Commission on the Status of Women and Girls was nominated in two categories, the Thought Leadership Campaign of the Year – Government or Non-Profit category and the Best White Paper or Research Report for Government or Non-Profit category.

The California Blueprint for Women’s Pandemic Economic Recovery is a comprehensive plan based on the research CCSWG conducted in partnership with California Policy Lab (CPL) to shed light on points of pain and bright spots of hope amid COVID-19 pandemic for a more equitable economic recovery for women. It describes the collective trajectories of groups of women who entered the pandemic already in economic difficulty and explores opportunities to chart new paths based on impact data from federal and state support programs and interventions. The economy is not gender neutral. The Blueprint findings show that gender is a substantive element of the health of the state’s overall workforce and capacity for economic growth and must be considered as an essential element in State resource stewardship. The Blueprint adopts, for the first time, a gendered lens on the California economy, and offers critical policy solutions that center women as key drivers of industry and key workforce participants.

The Commission has continued to expand its work and partnerships to meet this national moment and to work collaboratively to build a California in which the essential work of women is recognized and supported. The Commission believes that #WomenAreEssential to the state’s economy and future and is honored to have these efforts recognized nationally.

More than 230 professionals worldwide participated in the judging process to select this year’s Stevie Award winners.
