Girl Scouts California Councils

The next generation of women leaders are already leading the way.

The Commission is proud to partner with the Girl Scouts California Councils as we seek to elevate the voices of youth leadership and amplify their intersectional message of inclusivity for California’s girls and gender-expansive youth.

Forward, Together

In order to advance statewide public awareness and focus on gender equity for girls and gender-expansive youth throughout the state, the Commission is proud to partner with the eight Girl Scout California Councils. We are working together on projects intended to further conversations regarding intersectional gender equity, advance women and girls’ legal rights and opportunities through public policy and advocacy efforts, share subject-matter expertise with joint audiences, elevate Girl Scout-driven projects and messages, elevate youth voices, and advance women’s advancement in STEAM.

Girl Scouts Day at the Capitol

For the first time, the eight Girl Scouts California Councils came together with the Commission to promote Girl Scouts Day at the Capitol for girls from every county in our state. Girl Scouts Day at the Capitol offers California Girl Scouts first-hand exposure to California’s state government, empowering Girl Scouts with leadership skills to advocate for meaningful change. Participants of the two day program are awarded the Day at the Capitol fun patch.

“Girls to the Front” Advocacy Training

The Commission also provides “Girls to the Front” advocacy training, with our partners at Political Solutions, a woman owned and operated advocacy agency, on how to tell your personal story while advocating for policy to Legislators and their staff, prior to joining the Girl Scouts delegation at the Capitol to turn what they’ve learned into direct action and make some noise. Participants learn valuable advocacy skills and earn the Girls to the Front advocacy training fun patch.

The first year of this incredible program brought the Girl Scouts face to face with more than a dozen State officials, and provided them with an opportunity to make their voices heard. If you are a Girl Scout that would like to join the next Day at the Capitol, please reach out to your local Council for more information.

Speak Up and Speak Out!

Together, we are promoting gender-perspective in California’s policymaking, STEAM fields, and entrepreneurship, and foster girls’ empowerment, mental health, and participation in public life. We are developing joint campaigns to invest in girls’ potential, encourage cooperation, and organize speaking events. Our mutual goal is to empower girls and women, give their voices prominence, and fight prejudice and discrimination through public service and awareness efforts.

California Commission on the Status of Women and Girls

For nearly 60 years, the California Commission on the Status of Women and Girls has identified and worked to eliminate inequities in state laws, practices, and conditions that affect California’s women and girls. Established as a state agency with 17 appointed commissioners in 1965, the Commission regularly assesses gender equity in health, safety, employment, education, and equal representation in the military, and the media. The Commission provides leadership through research, policy and program development, education, outreach and collaboration, advocacy, and strategic partnerships.

Together, We Will Get It Done

The Commission has a long history of working with public and private partners to help raise public awareness, drive public engagement, and help to enact meaningful legislation that has an impact on the women and girls of California. Working with the Girl Scouts helps us elevate youth leaders and ensure that their voices are at the table when we’re addressing policy priorities for women and girls in our state.
