Girls in STEAM

Women and girls in California continue to lag behind their male counterparts in STEAM fields. The Commission partners with the California Department of Education and the CDE Foundation to act as annual co-hosts of the California STEAM Symposium.

#CASTEAM24 Call For Proposals Is Now Open!
Californians Dedicated to Education Foundation, in partnership with the California Department of Education, and the California Commission on the Status of Women and Girls, invite all STEAM enthusiasts to join us for our 11th annual convening on February 9-10, 2024 in Long Beach, CA. This must-attend STEAM education professional learning event brings together passionate people seeking inspiration, energizing engagements, and the opportunity to collaborate with STEAM education experts.

Every year we see participants from dozens of states and multiple countries. Throughout the event, we will come together to explore high-quality STEAM strategies to cultivate systems that promote life-long learning through inclusive and targeted practices, high-impact techniques, and policies. These approaches promote a sense of belonging and ignite student passion for STEAM learning while also supporting the social-emotional development of our education community. The STEAM Symposium is co-hosted annually by the Californians Dedicated to Education Foundation, the California Department of Education and the California Commission on the Status of Women and Girls. 

Sally Ride famously said once that “You can’t be what you can’t see” and we think about that a lot at the Commission, particularly with regard to representation and building up strong role models for girls.
