Awardees will each receive up to $2,500 and support for career development

SACRAMENTO – August 9, 2022 – California Women Lead (CaWL), in partnership with the California Commission on the Status of Women and Girls (CCSWG), today announced the California Women Lead Scholarship for female fellows in the Capitol community. Thirty scholarship recipients will receive up to $2,500, along with training, coaching and networking opportunities to support their professional endeavors.

“Securing a fellowship in the State Capitol is highly competitive,” said CaWL Board President Mona Pasquil Rogers. “However, the largest obstacle for many fellows isn’t the application process—it’s the related costs, such as housing and living expenses. The California Women Lead Scholarship will help support capable and talented young women as they pursue careers in policy and government.”

The deadline for applications to the CWL Scholarship Program is August 29,2022. In order to be eligible for a scholarship, applicants must identify as a woman and be currently participating in a Capitol fellowship program. Scholarship recipients will reflect the diverse identities and life experiences of all women who live and work in California.

“It is so important to offer additional support to women entering the public policy arena through the fellowship program on the heels of a pandemic that disproportionately impacted women and girls,” said CCSWG Executive Director Holly Martinez. “Helping young women to scaffold their education and talents with access to networks of experienced and supportive female leaders willing to offer sponsorship and mentoring can make a lifetime of difference for the young women I hope will someday be our leading voices in public policy.”

Scholarship recipients will be provided with opportunities to support their professional endeavors, including a summit to take place at the Citizen Hotel in Sacramento on Friday, September 23, 2022. The CaWL Scholarship Summit will include speakers, career coaching sessions, and training designed to build skills and confidence.

Awardees will also receive ongoing access to CaWL’s programming, training and network of female leaders to support their career and leadership pathway. To apply for the CaWL Scholarship: HERE.
