III.    YAC GIRLS AGENDA

A.  Health and Access Issue Statement

Sriya Srinivasan recommended adding information on addressing eating disorders and research on this to the issue statement.

Camille Chu recommended revising the section on menstrual equity to add a point about the lack of knowledge and awareness youth have about being able to access Medi-Cal.

Nicole Kim recommended revising the statement to focus on generally providing healthcare access to youth in rural areas.

B. Presentation and Discussion of Bill Proposals by Workgroup Members

Sriya Srinivasan discussed an idea to provide increased sexual harassment resources on campuses and provide sexual harassment and Title IX training to school principals, who make decisions on Title IX cases. Students are often afraid of reporting this harassment to administrative figures.

Nicole Kim discussed an idea to pursue providing increased reproductive care through mobile health clinics. Nicole cited UCLA’s launching of a mobile health clinic. The workgroup discussed the importance of providing reproductive care such as emergency contraception and focusing on rural areas. The workgroup also discussed the possibility of pilot programs.

Kate Landeros discussed the importance of assigning the enforcement of free menstrual products in schools to the appropriate individual to remedy implementation.

Sriya Srinivasan discussed an idea to amend education code to include information in school curriculum regarding identifying the signs of eating disorders in addition to current education code’s focus on emphasizing healthy eating. Sriya cited article I of education code.
