CCSWG Statement on Anniversary of Decision to Strike Down Roe v. Wade
(SACRAMENTO, CA) –Today marks the fourth anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which overturned Roe v. Wade. The California Commission on the Status of Women and Girls Executive Director Darcy Totten issued the following statement reflecting on the anniversary:
“Four years after the overturning of Roe v. Wade, we are witnessing the devastating harm that follows when a fundamental right is taken away. Across the country, women are being denied essential reproductive health care, criminalized for pregnancy outcomes, and forced into impossible situations. The California Commission on the Status of Women and Girls remains unwavering in our commitment to protecting reproductive autonomy, safeguarding access to care, and ensuring that every person has the dignity and freedom to make decisions about their own body and future. We will continue to advocate for policies that protect women’s rights and reproductive freedom.”
The Commission works closely with policymakers and key stakeholders on recommendations to further build upon California’s leadership to ensure safety and protect access to reproductive health care in the state.
